The Rice County Historical Society was founded in 1926 with the mission of “discovery, preservation and dissemination of the knowledge of the history of Faribault, Rice County and the State of Minnesota.” This mission has guided them over the years and continues to be the focus for everything they do. Education and outreach is the best way to share the rich history of Faribault.
The Museum of History includes displays on local history topics from pre-contact Native Americans to 20th century. There is a Research Center with genealogical information, and small gift shop. The society also has an 1850s log cabin, 1860s Church, 1850s one room School and an agricultural annex; and Home of Alexander Faribault.
