This picture was taken on July 14, 1985 in Rice County, Minnesota and shows the reunion of the descendants of Karl Friedrich Ernst Purfürst. a.k.a., Charles Ernest Purfeerst, Sr. and Mary Jane Brown.

The events began two days earlier at an evening reception held at a hotel in Faribault, Minnesota. The following day, July 13, 1985 graveside ceremonies were conducted at the Richland Township Cemetery where Charles and Mary Purfeerst were previously interred.

The reunion was held on farm property originally purchased by Charles Ernest Purfeerst, Sr. on June 14, 1864 and, to that day, had remained under ownership of his descendants. Initially the land passed to his son Charles Ernest Purfeerst, Jr.; thence to Mark Phillip Purfeerst, thence to Clarence Mark Purfeerst; and thence to Charles & Mary's GreatGreatGrandson James Mark Purfeerst.


A total of 235 descendants attended the reunion. They came many corners of the United States including such far away places as the states of Pennylvania, Virginia, Georgia and Washington.

The two ladies standing to the extreme right in the third row are Elizabeth and Wilhelmine Purfeerst, the unmarried daughters of Charles Purfeerst's brother Carl Friedrich Hermann Purfürst, a.k.a. Herman Purfeerst and his wife Elisabeth Schmidt-Sherning of nearby Steele County, Minnesota.


Most of the people in the photo are children (along with their respective spouses) or grandchildren of the aforementioned family elders; however, the handsome young man Adelard Purfeerst, in a late night phone call, identified Helen Sticha as "his girl friend".
